Shining the spotlight on the people behind Pod Point!

We're back with another Employee Spotlight!

This time around, we're having a chat with Alex Wan. As the Team Lead for our Home Charge Operations team, Alex looks after the southern regions of the country, overseeing the assessment and installation process of the customer's journey.

Hi Alex! What made Pod Point the company you wanted to work for?

Initially what attracted me was the technology. Sustainability had been a growing focus for me personally, and I saw the adoption of EVs being a huge part of it. So when the opportunity arose to be part of something so big, and with such a huge scope for growth, I couldn’t pass up the chance.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Pod Point?

The culture is certainly my favourite thing and it proved even more so once Covid hit and we started working from home. I really felt the friendliness and warmth from everyone even more when we all started communicating completely digitally. People are extremely helpful and willing to assist with any issue.

What motivates you?

Being challenged, and being able to provide the right solution to problems I may face. It’s been a steep learning curve in a fast-paced environment and we’ve had to adapt quickly to keep up with demand. The support from Management, and seeking out the wealth of knowledge we have in our technical team, has helped me in the daily challenges that I come across.

What makes Pod Point’s culture unique?

It’s been an extremely warm and friendly process from the very beginning, starting with the initial contact with the Talent team. Everyone is of a similar mindset and working towards the same goal. People are always happy to have a chat and share their knowledge, whether it’s someone within my own team or all the way up to our CEO.

Has your job differed since working remotely, and how has Pod Point supported you through this change?

In the best way, my job has more or less stayed the same throughout. Pod Point has been extremely helpful in making sure we had the right equipment to be able to work from home efficiently. With the introduction of mental health training, this helped even further. It meant we could provide support to our team and provide a safe space for people to reach out to, especially as we went back into lockdown just before Christmas.

Formula E car

Amazing! Now it’s time for the fun stuff. We’d like to know:

  • If you had to pick one, which EV would you have?
  • A converted Jaguar E-Type Zero.

  • If you were going on an EV road trip, which 3 songs would 100% be in your music playlist?
  • Don’t Stop Me Now - Queen
One Kiss - Summer of ‘69
Bryan Adams; Don’t Stop Believin’ - Journey

  • If you could do any job in the world, what would it be and why?
  • It would be the job I wanted whilst studying which is to be an engineer for an F1 team...or now a Formula E team! Formula 1 was what got me interested in engineering in the first place.

And there you have it! If you’d like to join Alex and the rest of the team at Pod Point, we’re constantly growing our company with talented people like yourself. To find your future role, head over to our careers page and browse our current vacancies. We look forward to working with you soon!
