Employee Spotlight: Alice Huckin, SME Manager

Posted by David: Oct 01, 2021 5 min read

We're shining the spotlight on the people behind Pod Point!

Welcome to the first in our brand-new Employee Spotlight series, where we have a virtual chit-chat and introduce you to the wonderful people that work with us.

We’re kicking off with Alice Huckin, who originally joined us in 2018 as an Operations Executive for the Domestic Operations team. After moving sideways into the Domestic Sales team, Alice became the Team Leader for our newly formed (and incredibly busy!) SME Sales team in 2019. She was promoted to SME Manager in 2021.

Hi Alice! What made Pod Point the company you wanted to be a part of?

I have always worked with vehicles and in the automotive industry. At university, I worked with a company that made carbon-efficient car parks which piqued my interest in working with sustainable vehicles. But I’ve never been a real petrolhead or interested in the engineering side, so I did sustainability as a Masters. Pod Point used to do talks which always interested me, and I thought a job in the company would fit both my interests in cars and sustainability. So I emailed over my CV and the rest is history!

Tell us about your journey through Pod Point.

I wasn’t necessarily focused on one specific role, and I didn’t have a particular job role in mind when joining; I just knew I wanted to be a part of the company. I started in Operations but I love speaking to customers and being a bit more out there. After being in Operations for a while, some of the Managers saw my potential to do better in a different role, so I was moved to something that fits my personality and strengths.

What motivates you?

Pod Point has such a great support network. Everyone is open and willing to help you with anything you need, even if you have never met or spoken to them before. As a company, we celebrate people who do well or have achieved something great. It really feels like we are rewarded and recognised for the work we do. Even senior team members are approachable and ready to answer questions you need answers for, and they see traits in you before you see them yourself. If these traits are being wasted in your current role, they make sure to find a better fit for you.

What's it like working with multiple teams across the business?

I work with the whole Commercial team, and sometimes talk to the Salesforce team or the Homecharge team, and the Customer Support team. It’s nice when you find yourself working with other teams as I like to speak and meet as many people as possible within the company. And everyone is so welcoming and happy to help when you need it.

What makes the Pod Point culture unique?

I absolutely love the culture of the company and the people I work with; everyone is amazing, friendly, and motivated. I think the culture interviews during the recruitment process play a huge part in making sure everyone’s values and interests are aligned with the business. But at the same time everyone brings something unique and special to the culture. You can tell that everyone has a sense of pride for working here.

Has your job differed since working remotely, and how has Pod Point supported you through this?

I was nervous when we moved to remote working as I didn’t have any office space or equipment in my house, but Pod Point provided me with everything I needed to make me comfortable and happy to work from home. Luckily, we have kept the social aspect of the company going through lockdown. We now have lots of different online socials that fit with everyone’s different interests and talents. We have music nights, a book club, knitting club, quiz nights etc. This really keeps up the morale and mental health of employees, especially in the winter months when it is dark and gloomy outside.

Amazing! Now it’s time for the fun stuff. We’d like to know:

  • If you had to pick one, which EV would you be and why?
  • Volkswagen ID.3 because I'm not too expensive but am sustainable and stylish.

  • If you were going on an EV road trip, which 3 songs would 100% be in your music playlist?
  • All Star - Smash Mouth
One Kiss - Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa
This is Me - The Greatest Showman

  • If you could do any job in the world, what would it be and why?
  • True crime podcaster. I’m already the voice of Pod Point’s phones, and I find the psychology behind crime fascinating! But maybe I’ll have to start with a Pod Point podcast and then move on to my dream.

And there you have it! If you’d like to join Alice and the rest of the team at Pod Point, we’re constantly growing our company with talented people like yourself. To find your future role, head over to our careers page and browse our current vacancies. We look forward to working with you soon!
