We’re thrilled to continue the expansion of our rapid charger rollout with Lidl! This means over a third of all Lidl stores will have rapid chargers by 2022.

Range anxiety? What range anxiety? On October 28th 2019, Lidl announced that 300 Lidl stores will install rapid chargers by 2022 1.

Currently, Lidl already has over 40 stores with rapid chargers across the UK and has powered more than 6.9 million EV miles2. They will also retrofit chargepoints into a number of existing stores, which together with new stores represents a total investment of over £25m.

Erik Fairbairn, Pod Point Founder & CEO, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Lidl to roll out its rapid charge network. It’s also great news for the UK’s EV drivers who will have an additional 260 locations where they can shop while they rapid charge.

Ingo Fischer, Chief Development Officer for Lidl GB, said: “At Lidl, we are committed to tackling the environmental concerns that our customers care most about, whilst giving them access to solutions that will support them in their ambition to lead more sustainable lives. Not only will our customers be able to charge their electric cars in 50 mins – less time than it takes to do a big shop – they will be able to do it for the best price on the market. It is our hope that, through this significant investment, we will enable easier access to charging points, ultimately helping more households switch to electric vehicles.”

Lidl will continue to offer the best value tariff on the market of 23 p/kWh3 for rapid charging, ensuring its network remains sustainable as the number of EV drivers continues to increase.

1 Whilst leaseholds sites ultimately depend on landlord approval, Lidl will take all possible steps to ensure that agreements are put in place to facilitate installation.
2 Date taken from October 1st 2019.
3 As of 10 March 2023, the price for using Lidl’s 7kW and 22kW chargepoints is 40p/kWh. The price of Lidl's rapid chargepoints (50kW+) is 65p/kWh.
