We sponsored the 2024 London to Brighton EV Rally!

A huge thanks to everyone who cheered on our drivers and joined us at the finish line. We hope you had a great day!

In case you missed it, the London to Brighton EV rally returned on Saturday 22nd June for its 4th year. Showcasing all things EV, the rally was an opportunity to celebrate and educate everyone on the benefits of electric vehicles. Remarkably, despite the forecast, we had some brilliant weather (and only a handful of showers).

This year was the event’s biggest yet, with over 100 electric cars taking part, including some unique EVs in attendance – did you manage to spot any?

We were hugely proud to sponsor the event alongside EDF and Drive Electric and showcase our newest and solar-integrated Solo 3S charger. It was the charger’s first ever public appearance, and powered this year’s EV Rally pace car (a Nissan Ariya), purely by solar power for the car’s entire 130-mile journey. It even had 150 miles left in the battery - how cool is that?

Our very own Pod Pointers braved the early morning start to take part in the rally this year alongside several of our customers, who hit the road happy thanks to their Pod Point chargers. We also had a stall at the finish line on the seafront, talking about all things electric charging and handing out some goodies (well done to everyone that snagged some freebies!).

What’s the rally all about?

The rally participants will set off from London, Westminster between 7am and 8am on Saturday 22nd June, driving past iconic British landmarks like Big Ben and Westminster Bridge. If you watch the EV convoy go past, make sure to wave at our Pod Point employees and customers as they drive.

From London to Brighton, the EVs will cover around 58 miles, giving onlookers plenty of opportunities to spot the drivers on the route. In fact, there are well over 100 electric vehicles due to take part this year, including a few new cars, some converted classics, and even an electric lorry, making it the biggest year yet!

From London to Brighton, the EVs covered around 58 miles, with the pace car covering some 130 miles (powered by the Solo 3S!) as it journeyed from Hove to London, then to Brighton and finally back to Hove. In total, over 110 electric vehicles took part this year, including a few new cars, some converted classics, and even an electric lorry, making it the biggest year yet!

The finish line in Brighton was converted into an e-village, spanning across 2.5 miles of the city’s seafront, which was completely free to walk around. Participants shared their experiences with BBC presenter Alison Ferns, whilst visitors were able to watch some thrilling stunts, relax to some live music and grab some freebies along the way. And of course, take some pictures for the ‘gram.

Our stall was at the finish line, where our team got the chance demonstrate our brand-new and solar-integrated charger, the Solo 3S. It was a great opportunity to talk to the public, and we’re thankful for everyone who came along to chat to the team.

Alongside us were EDF with their own stall, showcasing their new EDF EVolve energy tariff and educating visitors about off-peak tariffs and cost-effective charging solutions. Drive Electric were also on hand to demonstrate their next-generation energy home solution – V2L (vehicle-to-load, or bidirectional power) - with EDF, using a BYD car to power a heat pump.

After 4pm, we packed our bags and set up for the exclusive beach party for rally participants and ticket holders, where we celebrated the many successes of the day. And how did it go? Well, in the organisers’ own words:

“This event isn't just about cars, how you get in them or how you drive them. This is about a philosophy that we all share. People like Pod Point, people like Drive Electric, who started this whole thing, they're the OGs in this whole business. They've literally built this from the ground up, so I'm really pleased to share it with them.”

We hope everyone who came down had as brilliant a time as we did! And don’t forget, if you did take any pictures, we’d love to see them on social media! You can find links to all our profiles below.
