Electric Insights 009 | Building Regs & EV charging
Posted by Roseanne: Nov 29, 2021 • 2 min read
Our latest Electric Insights episode is on our current favourite hot topic: the new Building Regulations and features an expert panel.
In our first-ever Electric Insights panel discussion our Head of Insights, James McKemey, hosted four experts from government and industry about the new building regulations and EV charging mandates.
To recap, the legislation requires all new-build and retrofit homes and commercial buildings in England be installed with electric vehicle charging points from 2022.
When it comes to EV charging, we’re obviously keen - but what did our panel have to say?
Here’s just a few of the highlights:
New Building Regulations “Part S”: a whistlestop tour is provided by Grace Carroll, Head of Home, Workplace and Destination Electric Vehicle Charging Policy, OZEV
Why the consistency provided by Part S is a good thing with expert input from Kieran Walker, Technical Director, Home Builders Federation
Symon Gray, Head of Networks, Energy Assets Pipelines & Network considers whether widespread overnight EV charging will shift the traditional ‘peak’ period of electricity usage and how this will impact on DNOs and IDNOs.
Meanwhile Rob Hughes, Head of Built Environment at Pod Point explains how to avoid common pitfalls when it comes to installing EV charging infrastructure and why simplicity is absolutely key.
And... our panel answers your questions, from what’s happening in other areas of the UK to who’s responsible for maintaining the infrastructure once it’s in situ. Tune in for the inside track on the proposed legislation.
*N.B Scotland consultation closed on the 28th November 2021.
