We revisit some of 2022’s key milestones in the world of EVs and Pod Point.

We’re nearly at the end of another calendar year, which means another round-up of Pod Point highlights, together with the wider industry highs and lows of 2022.

The energy crisis and global supply chain crisis have thrown plenty of challenges our way this year, but we remain in a strong position, ready to power onwards and upwards into 2023.

2022 EV Industry highlights

EV car market

2022 saw solid sales figures for both new and used battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Between Q1 and Q3 2022:

  • 48k used BEVs were sold - 68% more than the same period in 2021
  • 225k new BEVs were sold - 38% more than the same period in 2021

New OZEV grant launches

Earlier in the year, the Office for Zero Emissions Vehicles (OZEV) replaced the EV Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) with a new EV chargepoint grant.

The new grant is aimed exclusively at people living in flats/apartments (whether renting or owning). Using the grant, tenants and flat owners can reduce the cost of buying and installing a home charger by £350.

Record wind energy generation

In November, the UK’s onshore and offshore wind farms hit a new record when they generated over 20 gigawatts (GW) for the first time.

This was the industry’s second record broken in the span of a single week, providing around 53% of the UK’s total electricity during the half-hour period!

Pod Point's 2022

Our team has continued to rise to the new challenges that 2022 has brought. Along the way, we celebrated some major milestones, worked to #BreakTheBias, and signed a number of exciting new partnerships. And thanks to our EV drivers, we’ve continued contributing to a significant reduction of CO2e.
