The well appointed, chunky and powerful BMW X5 xDrive45e may not have the snappiest name, but it offers an impressively meaty battery for a plug-in hybrid. 24 kWh is the same as the first generation Nissan LEAF and although this is a larger, heavier car it's still good for more than 50 miles of electric range (according to WLTP). So this is no token plug-in - it demands to be plugged in. Charging at 3kW max is slow for its battery size, but still easily doable overnight, or during the working day.
