Tethered or universal?

Solo Tethered

What's the difference?

Tethered chargers have a cable permanently attached, so you’ll never have to think about where your cable is. You can simply park up and plug in.

A universal charger has a socket for you to plug a separate cable into.

What's best for me?

As the tethered charger has a cable attached, there's no need to rummage around in your car to find it, which is ideal if you lead a busy lifestyle.

If you already have your own charging cable, you might prefer a universal charger as it's more cost-effective.

What else do I need to consider?

You'll want to think about where you normally park and how far away your home charger is. With a tethered charger, you'll have a fixed length which, in most cases, gives you enough length between your wall and your charger.

If you have multiple cars on your drive and park slightly further away, it's possible to get a longer universal cable. However, most households have plenty of options with a 5m tethered cable.

To decide what's right for you, you'll want to consider how often you plug in and whether you'd like a permanent cable attached or not.

Drive for less than 2.5p per mile.

We're giving new Solo 3 customers exclusive access to this EV tariff supplied by EDF, the largest generator of zero carbon electricity in the UK.

1 The 5 year extended warranty applies only to domestic Solo 3 and Solo 3S chargepoints purchased at full RRP price directly through Pod Point via our website (excluding referrals through any external third parties).

*Applies to standard installations only and from point at which pre-installation form has been completed. Engineer availability dependent.
